76ers Cut Knicks Lead to 3-2 with OT Win
Tyrese Maxey saved the Philadelphia 76ers from elimination on Sunday night, scoring 38 points, including 12 in overtime, to lead the team to a 112-106 victory over the New York Knicks in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series. The 76ers now trail 3-2 in the series, with Game 6 scheduled for Tuesday night in Madison Square Garden.
Maxey's Heroics
Maxey was brilliant in overtime, hitting a pair of three-pointers and a layup to give the 76ers a 103-98 lead. He also hit a pair of free throws with 13.4 seconds remaining to seal the win. The 22-year-old guard finished the game 13-of-24 from the field, including 4-of-9 from three-point range, and added 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
Joel Embiid also had a big game for the 76ers, scoring 27 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. James Harden added 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Tobias Harris chipped in with 16 points.
Knicks' Struggles Continue
The Knicks had a chance to close out the series on Sunday, but they struggled offensively in the fourth quarter and overtime. They shot just 31.8% from the field in the fourth quarter and 18.2% in overtime, and they turned the ball over 10 times in the final 15 minutes of the game.
Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 26 points, while R.J. Barrett added 20 points and Julius Randle had 18 points and 12 rebounds. However, the Knicks' bench was outscored by the 76ers' bench 34-13, and the Knicks were unable to overcome Maxey's heroics.
