Early Life and Military Career

Born in Tel Aviv in 1949, Benjamin Netanyahu's path to leadership was not an obvious one. Growing up partly in the United States, where his father was a lecturer, Netanyahu returned to Israel to serve in the Israel Defense Forces. This photograph, taken in 1967, captures Netanyahu during his military service.

Despite his humble beginnings, Netanyahu rose through the ranks of Israeli politics, eventually becoming Prime Minister in 1996. He served as Prime Minister for three terms, from 1996 to 1999, 2009 to 2013, and 2015 to 2021. During his time in office, Netanyahu oversaw a period of economic growth and stability in Israel. He also played a key role in the country's peace negotiations with the Palestinians.

Netanyahu is a controversial figure, but there is no doubt that he is one of the most significant figures in Israeli history. His legacy will continue to be debated for years to come.
