Ranomi Kromowidjojo Announces Retirement from Competitive Swimming
Dutch Swimmer Retires After Three Olympic Medals
The 27-year-old Kromowidjojo won gold in the 100-meter freestyle and silver in the 4 x 100-meter freestyle at the 2012 London Olympics. She also has six world championship medals, including two golds.
"After a long period of thinking, I have decided to stop my swimming career," Kromowidjojo said in a statement. "I want to thank everyone who has supported me over the years, my family, my coaches, my teammates, and the fans."
Kromowidjojo's retirement marks the end of a successful career for one of the Netherlands' most decorated swimmers. She has been a member of the Dutch national team since 2008 and has represented her country at three Olympic Games.
In addition to her Olympic and world championship medals, Kromowidjojo also has 162 national titles and 69 European medals.
